When Do I Change the Water Filters

2021-03-26
How often should you change your water filters can be a question with no fixed or standard answer, which is actually depends on various factors including water condition in your area, water consumption per day, etc. Water filters generally have an estimated life cycle usually measured in gallons of water, while this is only a guidline based on average water use, which is not always a good indicator, because water use varies a lot per household.
What Can Affect the Life of Your Filter:
• The overall condition of your water in terms of contaminants and how much must be filtered.
• If you have hard water (heavy with minerals) which causes scale to build up and clog the filter.
• If you use more water than the average household.
• How well your water was previously treated or filtered.
When an active carbon filter becomes clogged or for some reason can no longer attract particles and contaminants, it becomes ineffective and useless. It's time to replace it.
Signals that the Filter Needs Changing:
• You may detect an odor in the water.
• Water takes on an unpleasant taste.
• There's a gradual decrease in water pressure.
• Filters with clear containers give a visual indication that the filter is dirty.
• You have exceeded the manufacturer's water usage guidelines.
Replacing your water filter as needed ensures that your water filtration system is working effectively. You should always keep a back-up filter on hand, for convenient change-outs. Water filters are sold by brand and you can find the part or model number of your filter by referring to your water filtration system's manual or the manufacturer's web site.
